Rosary Closing Prayer in Latin (Oremus)

The Rosary closing prayer begins Orémus (oh-REH-moos), “Let us pray.” It asks that by meditating on these mysteries we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise.

Questions

When is the closing prayer said?

It is prayed once at the very end, after the Hail, Holy Queen, before the final Sign of the Cross.

What does Oremus mean?

Orémus means “Let us pray.” Whoever leads the prayer says it to begin a collect, a short prayer that gathers up the intentions of all (no priest is needed).

Do I have to pray it?

No. Neither it nor the Hail, Holy Queen is strictly required. Both are customary ways to close the Rosary, and many people include them.
